For the marimba soloist and chamber musician Katarzyna Mycka, the marimba is the ideal medium for making musical statements.
In recent years, she has expended a great deal of time and enthusiasm in re-establishing the marimba’s popularity as a solo instrument. One major contribution to this was the foundation of the “International Katarzyna Mycka Marimba Academy (IKMMA)” in 2003.
Numerous prizes at international competitions (CIEM Genf 1992, IPCL Luxemburg 1995 – 1st and Audience Prize, World Marimba Competition Stuttgart 1996 – 1st Prize) have confirmed her in her role as an ambassador for the marimba throughout the world for both the public and for many composers.
She sees her task as being the forging of more new paths in this direction. She has thus drawn the attention of many composers, who have written works for her and dedicated works to her. This compositional development has also increased the number of opportunities to perform with orchestras, a trend which Katarzyna Mycka welcomes with enthusiasm.

One of her aims is to continue finding composers who are prepared to research and gain an understanding of the marvellous, unique sound of the marimba in order to incorporate this experience into a genuine musical synthesis of their own ideas and the individual character of the instrument.
One very important focus of her artistic activity is her collaboration with Franz Bach. The homogeneity of sound and the interaction between them gives rise to a valuable musical trust. |
